While they're not tour guides, most Realtors have a number of colourful footnotes about the history of their area. Some stories have been told to them by old acquaintances, clients and others, gleaned by research or reading. For the community minded Realtor, this is one of the most interesting aspects of their work as "Ambassadors" when describing their area to someone from out-of-town.
They often pass bits of information to people interested in locating to the area, eager to learn something of local lore. For instance: In the Bancroft area, in the mid 1800's many a brave lumber man was laid to rest at the side of the York River, one near the lights at Hastings and Bridge and two near the Hydro Dam.
About 1860, lots along the York River might sell for about seventy-five cents an acre, if you were interested in a good deal.
